I wonder how many educators are on here.
There were thriving communities of educators on Tumblr and Twitter, but Tumblr's went to heck after moderated hashtags went away and Twitter is ... Twitter.
The fediverse has Scholar.social, but that's more of an instance for college/university level academics. I'd like to connect with other K-12 educators.
@crash I'm a teacher in Sweden. The kids are usually between 11 and 15 but can be older if they've had to redo a year. Not sure how that compares to the US system 🤷♀️ . This is very much a personal account though and not so much a work account. I've seen some teachers from time to time but nothing organised.
It took a fairly long time for teachers (K-12) to link up using Twitter. I worked several conferences to promote teachers to get accounts...pulling teeth some times.
The federated space is even more confusing, I suspect.
I think "we" need to get some well known education voices into the federated space to attract the general teacher population.
Since I'm retired, the "we" is significant.
Stephen Downes is here. https://mastodon.social/@Downes
@crash I'm a middle school teacher! I think we're here but spread amongst so many instances it's hard to find each other
@crash I'm probably an educator? used to educate university students in graphic design and product design, used to educate developers in graphic design and getting hired.
@crash There should be a vast ecosystem for scholars and teachers on the Fediverse. AFAIK there isn't one, but someday! Someday...
@adamasnemesis Scholars, yes. College level academics, incredibly so. (I cannot say enough good things about scholar.social, even if the instance isn't for me.)
Teachers of students aged 5-18 ... not so much.
