Today at work, I had two computers on the same network running the same clean installed version of Windows with the same patches and software versions.

One would load the CSS for our LMS website, the other would not.

A lack of CSS fundamentally breaks the usability of our LMS.

This is why I am out of spoons today.

at work or in the home, the number one cause of injury is still slips, trips, and falls

online, the number one cause of injury is doubling down on a bad take

I need to make sure my sleep schedule stays adjusted so I can be functional enough when I get up to go to school.

Which means I should not go to bed this early.

But I am tired.

If you're willing to stay on .social because you can't find another instance willing to host your "brand" and you also refuse to host or pay for your own instance...

... then your "brand" is worth exactly what you've paid for it, I think.

Imagining a world where the statement "I don't have sufficient information or understanding to offer an informed opinion on this topic" is commonly heard.

Open, unabashed acknowledgement of ignorance and willingness to listen, read and learn.

@Crash
I am having problems finding an instance that allows "brands" that don't participate in general community discussions (wandering.shop and writing.exchange both disallow this, for instance), and which is proven to be stable, and likely to stick around, and won't be disrupted by the entry of reasonable big name, and doesn't just want me for having a reasonably big name, and is widely federated, and anglophone, and...
I have looked. If you have any recommendations, let me know.

I, too, would be willing to not moderate an instance for $7,000 per month.

In fact, I'd do an even better job at not moderating it.

(The instance would be this single-user instance I'm currently on. I would not open registrations.)

If Mastodon switched to opt-in federation I could probably limit my list to 10 instances and be perfectly content.

No, I'm not making that list right now.

Though off the top of my head, I think only two of them would have more than 50 active users.

People complain about Google knowing everything but YouTube just gave me a pop-up asking me to try "picture in picture on iOS" and that's

1. A feature I never use on
2. An OS I never use.

back-to-school in a pandemic

We aren't doing hybrid this year but it looks like the largest class I'll have is 25, though I won't know for sure until the 1st day of class.

With current social distancing rules, I think I can fit them in my room. 15 was a stretch when they had to be 6 ft apart but current guideline is 3 ft with masks on.

Seating chart will be a Tetris game, but when has it ever /not/ been a Tetris game?

back-to-school in a pandemic

My school is mandating vaccination or weekly COVID testing for all staff.

We've been providing free student vaccinations for years so the infrastructure's already in place to provide COVID vaccines to students in approved age groups.

We never got rid of our mask mandates.

back-to-school in a pandemic

My first day back in the building is tomorrow so of course my curated newsfeeds are full of news stories about all the school systems that are reopening poorly, whether from their own anti-science stances or those of their local/state governments.

I'm in a far better situation, but still...

Anyone in Toronto interested in a 1984 Mac 512K? Free, as-is. Pickup only, East York. It's just light enough to carry on transit.

I kinda need to know whether to hang onto it or Got Junk it by tomorrow, and I'll only be around till the 1st to give it away.

Boosts OK.
