I'd get a lot more grading done if I didn't have to go to the doctor soon.

For an issue that is actively producing symptoms.

There is something wrong with my priorities.

I do not regret letting students resubmit work for a higher grade.

But I am glad that I will eventually reach a cutoff date after which I will be able to catch up, because this is a lot of little assignments being thrown at me randomly.

Good morning, friends.

Stop me if you've heard this one ...

... but I might do some schoolwork on the day where I requested leave for a doctor's appointment.

Good morning, friends.

I have a Dr.'s appointment tomorrow, but I wrote my sub plans yesterday!

... now I just need to do all the things that didn't get done because I was writing sub plans instead.

Idly wondering if anyone ever finished a thesis by setting up a wiki and crowdsourcing it.

I assume it has been done, just as I assume getting found out would lead to negative consequences.

Good morning, friends.

This is my first regular, no events taking up planning time, Monday of the year.

I wonder what crisis will take up that time today.

We're going to do another Fall Film Festival at the Makerspace, as part of our #netv launch.

I accept, and welcome, submissions from people who are *not* in Ellijay.

I demand, and in fact require, submissions from everyone I know in Ellijay. You have until Dec 20th. Get Crackin'.

The bear circled around back but didn't go past the tree line again. Last I saw it was further back into the woods.

Saw a bear. Two family members pulled out cameras. I was, oddly, not one of them.

Fifth Circuit rules in favor of Texas law on social media regulation : NPR -

The Florida law, as enacted, would give Florida's attorney general authority to sue companies under the state's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. It would also allow individual residents to sue social media companies for up to $100,000 if they feel they have been treated unfairly.

The Texas law only applies to the largest social media platforms that have more than 50,000 active users.

Last night I didn't put the rain fly on my tent. For a good portion of the night I could look up and see the moon. 60°F (16°C) right now, but that's not too cold if you're dressed for it.

Good morning, friends.

This has not been the most comfortable trip, but I'm glad I am here.

My not-quite-two nephew gives the best high fives.

It's week 3.

It's still chaos.

But there was less chaos.

This is how it always is.

I got to talk about helping others. (This group needs no encouragement.)

I got to talk about "helping" vs. "doing for." (This redirection is common.)

I didn't type a single student's password.

I didn't have to.

The little ones are learning.

I love this job.

I feel bad enough to regret coming to school, but not bad enough to have wanted to stay home.

The work is easier to do here. The clean-up after Monday and Wednesday was not easy.

Reminder that Andrew Wakefield initially lied about finding a connection between mainstream vaccines and autism because he was peddling his own line of alternative vaccines. It wasn't just a spurious claim: he lied because he wanted people's money and he didn't care if those people got hurt.

(The students have a chance to turn this around, but only because it's early in the course so while redoing assignments will increase their workload, it's survivable for a short burst. I had to do this now, because in 4 weeks recovery percentages grow slim.)

Good morning friends.

By a series of tragic coincidences, the class I was supposed to see the most this week will instead be only taught once.

The work they did (or didn't do, thinking it was "busy-work") on Mon/Wed is in the online grade book for parents to see.

Emails about this were sent home yesterday.

Today, I will explain again why it's important to not slack off at the start of a coding class unless you already know how to code.
