subtoot, income, employment Show more
I want enough of an income so I can hire all my friends to do the things they already like to do.
(I contribute to Patreons, etc, but I'm talking LIVING WAGE money here, which is a different set of numbers altogether.)
That, and/or I want a house large enough for them to be able to visit for any unspecified length of time that they want and/or need.
Alas, I am on a teacher's salary and my side projects are not designed to be profitable.
Endgame, not an actual spoiler Show more
I like how they referenced a lot of things from the previous movies, including a reprise of Starlord's dance battle, but I doubt they would have had the time to teach Hulk how to line dance in such a short time frame.
Totally ruined my immersion.
Endgame Show more
Going to see it in @ 20 minutes. No spoilers.
I may have found the perfect tie to wear to our Film Festival Awards Ceremony.
Meta, Masto vs. Twitter, cont. Show more
I have considered paying for a mastohost instance geared specifically towards K-12 teachers in an "If you build it they will come" scenario, but then I'd have to be the admin.
I've been an admin before. I've been a guild master before, on more than one occasion, and it's a very similar thing.
I don't think I have the spoons to do that. Those spoons may have been permanently melted down.
So I just sit here, lamenting that someone else hasn't done the work for me.
Meta, Masto vs. Twitter Show more
I love almost everything about Mastodon that makes it not like Twitter, I really do.
In spite of using the tools provided to try to find more K-12 teachers in the fediverse, I've mostly come up empty.
Yes, scholar.social exists, and it is good, but its population is (grad)college-centric and that isn't the personalized learning network I'm aiming to build with this account.
On Twitter, K-12 teachers were among the early adopters of the platform.
Meta Show more
At some point I will stop clicking "Local Timeline" on an instance I have just for me.
But today is not that day.
Standardized Testing Show more
Finished the last one of the school year today, yay! There's nothing like watching 5th grade sit quietly for an hour and I do not care to do it again.
No more tests for me until I give my majors their Final! Woohoo!
(And the Final's more fun, just sayin'.)
"Here is the most fundamental rule of film criticism: A movie is not about what it is about, but about how it is about it. The subject does not and cannot make a movie good or bad. Only the style, the approach, the method, the craftsmanship, the purpose and the message can make a movie good or bad." - Roger Ebert
Covering a Class Show more
Today I spent part of my planning teaching 3rd grade Visual Arts and I am proud to say I was able to complete the assigned worksheet without needing the textbook.
It's almost like that's my certification.
Take Your Kid To Work Day Show more
Over half of my middle school class is out today and I can hear myself think in this classroom.
Not sure I appreciate that as much as I should.
uspol, nazi, Twitter Show more
I shouldn't be able to sum up most of the good things about Mastodon by saying "It's not Twitter," but here we are.
Why Won’t Twitter Treat White Supremacy Like ISIS? Because It Would Mean Banning Some Republican Politicians Too.
After all this time I still find my PICO-8 implementation of Flying Toasters really soothing: https://noelle.codes/toasters.html
Makin' Stuff Show more
Found a cool idea for an "On Air" sign on Instructibles that I could make with my Cricut.
Guy offers the plans for free ... if you join his Facebook group.
Oh, well, looks like I get to have more ownership of my final design, then, as there's no way I'm dealing with FB any more.
I'm off to see if I can buy some cheap LEDs for the internals, now.
Catapult Lesson Plan
It's not a trebuchet, but it'll do.
