Running self-adhesive vinyl through my Cricut for the first time. (I usually stick with cardstock/cardboard.)

If all goes well I'll have decals to hand out to members of my after school club.

If it doesn't go well, I'll have ruined a 12x12 sheet of vinyl, but I'll have learned something.

I wonder how many people use "correcthorsebatterystaple" as a password. Not that password-generation scheme, but that actual string.

Some day I hope to find a community of teachers on here.

I got close with scholar.social, but they're geared for higher ed.

Today I get to play Dungeons & Dragons with my after school club.

I am here for this content.

Linux Weekend Project

It's been close to a year since the last time I did a clean install of Debian on my laptop, and it's feeling a little cluttered so it's probably worth it to wipe, rinse, and repeat while I feel I have the time.

This time I'm going to go with LXQt as it's the same environment I'm using on the computers in my lab and I might as well have some uniformity across the board. (Also freeing up resources on a 3 year old laptop isn't a bad decision.)

widower, Curently listening to

My ringtone for the last three years: youtube.com/watch?v=VRCWFrwJwB

The song is not at all about death and yet at this point that's the only way it hits me.

You can buy it and a lot of amazing songs by the artist here: jonathancoulton.com/store/

Huh. TIL: closed captions can be turned on and off. Open captions are burned into the video and always display.

Also, in the US and Canada, "subtitles" means just transcribed dialogue (typically aimed at viewers who don't understand the language being spoken); "captions" means all significant sound is transcribed (typically aimed at viewers with hearing impairment).

Hi Fediverse πŸ‘‹

let me sum up the situation around #switchingsocial

Around September 20th, the original (anonymous) author of switching.social shut down its website and all related Social Media accounts, including mastodon πŸ€”

This info reached me (@tobias ) the next day via my German version @swisode .

As there hasn't been any sign of life since then, I restored the website and created this new account. Right now I'm out of spare time to work on it, but that'll change in a few weeks πŸ™‚

Sadly, Switching.social was discontinued but, thanks to the efforts of @tobias, it is being reincarnated as Switching.software.

Follow here: @switchingsoftware

Site: switching.software/

Thank you, Tobias. And thank you to the original anonymous person who created and maintained it until now.

My Donors Choose project got funded!

One step closer to having a lab full of computers that AREN'T 11 years old, thus making them older than most of my students!

(I have some purchased in 2016 so they're getting close to Kindergarten age, but they had a higher budget so I'm not worried about them quite yet.)

Technically, anything that requiring over 60 seconds to complete takes minutes to make.

No matter how many digits are included to the left of the decimal point.

The universe as we know it took minutes to make.

"This is just unbelievable!" she said.

So, I didn't believe it.

Happy Thursday, or as I like to call it, Friday Eve!

My Donors Choose project is a mere $52 away from being funded. It would be fantastic if anyone pitched in a dollar or two. donorschoo.se/e/wC5qyRzmR0

My 2nd graders using Scratch have hit that moment of flow where I just have to tell them a block exists and then they explore everything they can do with it.

I love my job.

Home stretch! Our latest Donors Choose project needs only $52 more to be funded! Does anyone with a dollar or two want to help us replace our 11 year old computers? donorschoo.se/e/5QoZKwPrM0
